Avery is an infrastructure engineer, designer, and strategist with 20 years experience in every facet of internet technology and software development.
At Bringing Fire Consulting, Avery offers expertise at the intersection of technology, product formulation, and business strategy. He has consulted for businesses in the e-commerce, medical, and cloud-based mobile application fields, among others.
Prior to founding Bringing Fire Consulting, Avery spent 5 years at the shopping search engine startup ShopWiki, joining as the 3rd engineer on the staff and departing in 2011 as the CTO. He built a strong staff and championed a development environment driven by automated testing, continuous integration, and analytics. He impacted the company’s strategic direction as a member of its steering committee, and in 2010 he worked with the diligence teams of prospective buyers to sell Shopwiki, concluding with a private sale to Oversee.net.
Prior to that, he worked on DoubleClick’s Adserver Engineering team, both as an engineer, and as a liaison to other technology teams at the company, Project Management, and clients.
Avery earned a B.A in Computer Science from Brown University, where he specialized in systems and network programming, while also studying anthropology, fiction, cog sci, and semiotics.
He got his start in internet technology in 1993, configuring apache and automating systems at Panix, the third-oldest ISP in the world.
Avery has an obsession with getting to the heart of a problem, a flair for communication, and a devotion to providing delight to end users.
